As each day passes North Carolina becomes more of a valuable state to both Obama and McCain. Had North Carolina been anything like it has been in the past, the Republican party thought the state to be a sure lock for their candidate. Due to the the current economy crisis with real estate slumps, banks going out of business, and increased gas prices it is obvious that the economy has become the number one issue for most Americans. Although NC does not carry the value of states like California and New York, every little bit counts at this stage of the game. Obama knows that if he can pick up a state that has gone Republican for so long it would be a huge success and may be the difference between winning and losing. Similarly, McCain knows that if he loses a once Republican strong hold, which the polls currently indicate to be likely, he’s in a world of hurt. With just two weeks until the election the Obama campaign seems the only campaign truly invested in gaining the North Carolina vote with his Monday visit to Fayetteville and Biden’s upcoming tour in the state.
